Samaúma |

The sacred Samaúma tree in the Huni Kuin village Espelho da Vida, Mirror of Life, in Acre, Brazil. The Samaúma tree, Ceiba pentandra, also known as the Kapok tree, is one of the largest trees in the Amazon rainforest, reaching heights of up to 70 meters. It has a massive trunk with distinctive buttress roots

that help support its towering structure. The tree plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by providing habitat for various animals and producing cotton-like fibers that aid in seed dispersal. Indigenous communities consider it sacred, often referred to as the "Mother of the Forest" due to its size and significance.

Every Huni Kuin village has at least one Samaúma tree in close proximity, and they gather under these massive trees for rituals, ceremonies, and to connect with ancestors through the tree's trunk. Additionally, the bark, leaves, and seeds are used in traditional medicine for various health benefits.
